The Met’s It Girl and carpet corespondent Emma Chamberlain stuns the scene AGAIN wearing custom Jean Paul Gaultier with a high-fashion upstyling from LA-based celebrity hairstylist Sami Knight (@samiknighthair).

Sami’s inspiration for Emma’s hair look: “Emma’s gorgeous gown from Jean Paul Gaultier was totally the inspiration for her hair today. The lace is so delicate and ethereal, I wanted to create an elegant updo fitting the event, and incorporating the archive lace. We toyed with many different textures, and settled on a mix of smooth and soft,” Sami explains.

HOW-TO STEPS

1

To start, Sami blow dried the hair, directing every section back and up towards the crown. Pro tip: When blow drying, use a little smoothing balm at the hairline to create a slight grip to ensure all the hair is laying in the right direction.

2

Next, pull the back of the hair up and into a ponytail. Use an elastic to secure the hair and then pull the hair on either side of the face up to join the first ponytail. Be sure to leave the center part structured and wisps of hair out to frame the face.

3

Once secure, split the ponytail into three even sections, securing each one with a tiny elastic that will not be seen.

4

To add extra volume, secure BELLAMI Hair Silk Seam Hair Extensions to the base of each ponytail. The clips are sturdy enough to attach directly to the ponytail without any slip. Don’t worry about covering the base of the weft, this will come later on in the styling process.

5

To add some shape, curl the ends of the ponytail using a 1″ curling iron.

6

To create the top knot, smooth each section of the ponytail down and coil the ponytail on top of itself. The key is to use a stiff pomade or hair balm to keep the hair structured and smooth while manipulating into the desired shape. If desired, leave the ends of the ponytails out for a tousled look.

7

Lastly, Sami cut out shapes from the gown’s lace and secured them to the hair using eyelash glue. Use creaseless hair clips to secure the lace down while the glue dries.
