ASHLEY GRAHAM’S FLIPPED-OUT BOB AT THE 2023 MET GALA

Ashley Graham attended the 2023 Met Gala sporting a flipped-out bob with a side part and wavy patterned section of hair by celebrity hairstylist Justine Marjan (@justinemarjan). Ashley paired the retro style with a structural velvet and satin pink and black gown by Harris Reed.
Justine used ghd and Great Lengths products to create the look and shares it was inspired by various Chanel collections—perfectly aligning with the Met Gala’s theme “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.”
“We were inspired by the classic Chanel bob and wanted to give a nod to the legacy of the brand and the era it was founded,” shares Justine. “Most of Karl’s collections featured the models with slicked back hair or side parts, so we went for a side part and the wavy pattern in the front paid homage to the hair in Chanel’s spring ‘93 collection. The flipped ends were from Chanel’s spring ‘97 couture show.”

HOW-TO STEPS

To start, Justine prepped Ashley’s damp hair with a blowout cream then blew it dry with the ghd Duet Style.

Once the hair was dry, Justine switched the Duet Style to shine shot mode (which transforms the tool into a ghd styler) and smoothed the hair using the iron.

Before applying extensions for a custom bob, Justine braided Ashley’s hair underneath, using a control gel and pins to secure.

Justine then added Great Lengths Tape-In Extensions for volume and cut them into a bob.

She sprayed the hair with a fine hairspray and brushed through.

She then used the ghd Curve Soft Curl Iron to flip the ends upwards.

Justine sprayed the hair brush with hairspray and brushed through. She set the look with Emi Jay creaseless clips.

The wavy section of hair was premade using a Great Lengths Extensions wavy hair piece. She applied the piece to the front by taping in and used a hold gel to shape the front of the hair into a wavy pattern. She then added creaseless clips to hold in place.

Justine used a toothbrush and control gel to brush one side behind the ear.

She then removed the creaseless clips and misted with more hairspray for hold to finish off the look.
