Strawberry Blonde/Muted Copper Formula To Try

This year’s hair color trends are going back to the basics. Example: gorgeous natural-looking tones like this strawberry copper blonde creation from IG’s favorite Justin Toves-Vincilione (@ahappyjustin). “This look is a blend of redhead, beachy blonde and warm gold all in one color story,” he explains. “It’s perfect for clients whose skin tone complements warmer blonde shades!”

Keep scrolling for Justin’s formula, tips and exclusive pics of the look below.

Who is the ideal client for strawberry copper?

“Someone who likes to play around with different shades of blonde,” Justin says. “Similar to other specialty colors, this specific shade will fade faster than other high-level blondes. While you can ultimately take any client this color, you’ll want to make sure that whoever you’re offering this color to understands the maintenance involved.”

Starting levels, hair history & developer volume must-knows:

  • This client’s natural starting level was a Level 7 neutral light brown.
  • The only natural hair present at the time of this service was about 1.5” of outgrowth. The remaining hair was a Level 7 copper/red.
  • “This client changes her hair a lot and also does a lot of hair modeling, I needed to be mindful of previous lightening services and the amount of heat styling that has taken place,” Justin says. “This is where low-volume developer comes in handy! The best way to lift to the perfect warm, light blonde is to lift low and slow.”

Maintenance scheduling & at-home care:

In the salon:

  • Regrowth retouches every six weeks.
  • Babylight retouches will vary from client to client depending on hair health and color goals.
  • Gloss retouch every three to four weeks, depending on how often they shampoo and use heat tools.

At-home care:

  • Avoid over-shampooing and using hot water to prevent color from fading.
  • Use heat tools at a minimum to no usage, as this will protect the color’s longevity.
  • Color care shampoo and conditioners like, “Authentic Beauty Concept Glow Cleanser and Conditioner along with Redken Acidic Bonding Concentrate prevent color fading tremendously.”

  • Formula B (babylights)

Wella Professional Blondor Hair Lightener Powder + 10-volume developer.

FORMULA STEPS

1. Apply Formula A throughout the entire head.

2. Use Formula B to add babylights where needed to break up the solid base color.

Pro Tip: To prevent further damage on previously lightened hair, Justin recommends using Welexon Perfect 1.9 Pastel Creme Developer on compromised areas. (In this case, Justin used Formula B throughout zone 1 and supplemented Welexon Perfect 1.9 Pastel Creme Developer throughout the rest of the head.)

3. Gloss entire head with Formula C and let process for 20 minutes.
