Gilded Brunette Curls
Working on a curly brunette client? There’s nothing more satisfying than creating a blend of gilded gold on those bouncy ringlets. Here’s how Redken Global Color Creative Director Josh Wood uses foils to create the look on a client with Level 3 hair and 50 percent gray.

Starting Level: Natural Level 3, Medium Brown with 50% gray
1. Apply Formula A to the roots using a global application. Then process at room temperature for 35 minutes, shampoo and condition with Color Extend Magnetics and dry the hair.
2. For sun-kissed highlights, imagine how the sun would naturally lighten the hair. Take a diagonal forward section using a slice-skip-slice-stitch technique and place on a foil. When working on really curly hair, work in bigger sections.
3. Continue to take sections until the desired amount of dimension is achieved. Process at room temperature until light blonde or up to 50 minutes. Shampoo and apply Redken Chemistry Extreme for dry hair.
HOT TIP: For more natural results, select random sections above the parietal ridge (round of the head) and use a brick-lay pattern.
4. Next, on prelightened sections, apply Formula C and saturate through to the ends. Process at room temperature for 30 minutes and rinse. Do not shampoo. Then, on towel-dried hair, apply pH-Bonder #2 Fiber Restorative Pre-wash Concentrate for 10 minutes. Rinse and follow with Color Extend Magnetics Shampoo and Conditioner.
