This smooth, creamy caramel melt is so delicious, it doesn’t really need an introduction. In fact, the sheer number of likes it received when we posted it on Instagram (more than 4,000!) speaks for itself. Jessica Mendieta from Butterfly Loft Salon in Los Angeles offers up her formula for achieving the cascading waves of caramel she gave her client Rebecca.

COLOR FORMULAS

  • Formula A:

    Wella Blondor Powder Lightener + 10-volume developer

  • Formula B:

    Wella Blondor Powder Lightener + 15-volume developer

  • Formula C:

    Wella ILLUMINA 6/19 Dark Ash Cendre Blonde

  • Formula D:

    Equal parts Wella Illumina 7/81 Medium Pearl Ash Blonde and Wella Illumina 8/1 Light Ash Blonde + Wella Color Touch 1.9% developer

FORMULA STEPS

1. Alternating 1/2” sections, balayage down from roots to ends, creating baby highlights with a mixture of Formulas A and B on the front and sides. Process for 30 minutes under heat.

2. Apply a purple shampoo and let it sit on the hair while mixing the toner, then condition and rinse.

3. Apply Formula C from the roots to about 2 inches down. Process for 10 minutes, then rinse.

4. Apply Formula D all over the hair. Process for 15 minutes.

5. Shampoo, apply Moroccanoil Intense Hydrating Masque and rinse. Then blow-dry and style as desired.
