How-To: The Reflective Blonde All Your Clients Will Be Asking For
Are your clients arriving with warm, summer-ready blonde inspo pics? According to Moroccanoil® Global Ambassador and ARC™ Scissors Team Member Rachel Williams (@rachelwstylist), this trend is coming in hot: “90 percent of my usual icy or cool-toned blondes are asking for this look!” she says.
We got the inside scoop on how Rachel creates these shimmery reflective blondes. Keep reading for her formulas, go-to products and pro tips!
What is your number one consultation tip for reflective blonde?
Rachel’s bright, golden blonde may be filling up everyone’s summer Pinterest boards, but she always likes to do a small test to see if it’s what the client really wants. “I always get a hair swatch and put it against my client’s skin and eyes in the mirror so they can visualize how it’s going to look on them and their skin tone.” Rachel shares. “Especially if they’re used to have a more cool-toned blonde.”
Pro tip: Ideally, Rachel’s formula works well with bases Level 6 and up with prelightened hair at a Level 8 or 9.

How long does it take to create reflective blonde?
When dividing up her appointment, Rachel takes a closer look at application and processing time. “The toning process itself [takes only] 25 minutes—and that’s application and processing time. It’s the foiling or painting with lightener that takes the most time,” she explains. “Depending on the client’s length and density of the hair, lightener application can take anymore from 35 minutes to one and a half hours.”
Pro tip: As for pricing, highlights and toner typically range anywhere from $215 and $475 depending on the stylist and the geographical area.
What does maintenance look like for this look?
If your client is looking for an easy, low-maintenance look, you’ve come to the right place. “This blended reflective blonde is very salon low-maintenance. The blend grows out nicely and looked lived-in, which gives the client more options when they want a refresh,” Rachel says. “The tone itself really holds because hair naturally has a golden undertone, [but] a lot of my clients like to come in for a tone refresher halfway between appointments.”
As for at-home care, Rachel recommends clients use color-friendly shampoo and conditioner like Moroccanoil®’s Color Care line, low heat on their styling tools and medium to cool water when washing their hair.
