The Biggest Hair Color Trends of Summer 2024
5 Hair Color Trends That Are Going Viral For Summer 2024
Our clients want low-maintenance summer hair color—REJOICE! Gone are the days of blasting through the “brassy” colors, touching up money pieces and clarifying sunscreen out of a platinum hairline. This summer, sun-kissed brunettes, naturally-there tones and believable bleach blondes are all the craze.
Save the color formulas, foiling techniques, inspo photos and more below to quickly (and confidently) create your client’s summer look.
#1. Strawberry Blonde
She’s sweet, she’s different, she’s…not copper, but not blonde? 🍓 First things first: Set expectations during the consultation. Clients will hear “blonde” while you hear “strawberry,” to avoid the post-color tears after revealing a red-toned blonde, here’s what you need to ask.
Consultation questions you need to be asking:
1. Do you want to be a redhead?
-
- This question will reveal if your client actually wants “strawberry” in their hair, or if they’re just looking for a warm blonde
2. Will you be okay with the fading process?
-
- Red hair color is made up of the biggest molecules on the hair color spectrum, resulting in fast fade time which is heightened when applied onto porous blonde hair. Your client’s hair will fade, it may even turn orange—make sure they are aware of the upkeep.
3. When you’re ready to go back blonde, we are looking at a longer lightening process. Is that okay with you?
-
- Summer trends are trends for a reason, set expectations and reassurance for future appointments!

Celebrity colorist Tracey Cunningham (@traceycunningham1) shares her gloss formula for Khloe Kardashian’s strawberry blonde transformation.”First, we did a very fine highlight all over her head and then glossed it a few times to get the perfect strawberry color,” says Tracey. “Like a real redhead, you have to have different colors in their hair!”
Here’s the double-process gloss formula:
- Redken Shades EQ™ 9AA + 8C + 9G, process for 15 minutes.
- Then, add Shades EQ™ Orange Kicker to the formula and apply allover for 6 minutes to process.

#2. Sun-Kissed Brunette
There is no summer without your brunette clients contemplating their existence. When the blonding season rolls around, know how to give your clients what they want without over-committing to a seasonal refresh.
The BEST thing you can do for a sun-kissed brunette is to never take your client fully blonde. This look is warm, it’s brassy, it’s dimensional with intention. Avoid blasting your client’s cuticle with bleach and pivot to advanced foiling techniques that will get the look you’re aiming for without over-processing healthy dark hair.

#3. Angel Blonde
This creamy, bright blonde is your client’s perfect neutral. This “lit from within” glow of blonde is trending heavy from all-over color, lived-in looks, balayages and highlights alike. Caution—this IS a high-lift look, so proper summer care like sun exposure and sunscreen transfers on the hairline need to be discussed post-appointment!
Color goals: Building a halo of brightness, an angelic glow, healthy ends and mega-shine (that can be seen all the way from heaven).

Suzi Angelina (@hair.by.suzi) UK-based hairstylist going viral for her blonde transformations using Moroccanoil® color line shares the biggest mistake to avoid when creating an angel blonde formula:
The mistake: “Any blonde you add into the hair has to be blended into the roots, so if you remove all traces of the client’s natural hair from the mids, it makes creating a blend almost impossible,” Suzi explains.
The solution: “This is why smaller weaves packed [back-to-back] in are so important to create a soft blend, and then focusing tip-outs through the ends to create that gradient roots-to-bright-blonde-ends finish,” she answers. “The roots remain natural, the mids have some blonde [and] natural present to connect the roots, and the ends have extra blonde for a bright pop.”
