Lacy’s goal: To bring authentic hairstyles to Black gamers.
Like in most industries, proper representation is still lacking in video games. Often times, avatar customization templates in games have very limited (and sometimes zero) hairstyles to accurately represent Black characters. Lacy’s partnership with The Sims will deliver more authentic textured hairstyles to gamers all over the world through her lived and professional experience.
“I was very specific with the feedback to the developers. I wanted to ensure every swirl around the hairline is laying accurately, braids and partings are true and coils emulate textured hair,” Lacy shares. “…I’m excited to venture further into the gaming and AI world and for my work to reach the tens of millions of people who play The Sims 4. I cannot wait to see the new Sims they design with these hairstyles!”

The Sims 4 brings top knots, coils, braids & more to avatars.
Lacy’s hairstyles come to life through the Michaelsons—a pre-made Black family who exist in The Sims 4. Here’s the line-up of new styles:
- Braids styled into a top knot with perfectly accentuated baby hairs on Celeste, a.k.a. Mrs. Michaelson
- A short, coily cut on Celeste’s husband, Christopher
- Men’s box braids with a few shoulder-grazing plaits on Celeste and Christopher’s son, Atlas
- Shoulder-length natural curls, presumably adorning Celeste’s mother
- Two puffs with a cornrow and beads on either side
Atlas wears Lacy’s hairstyle as he builds a treehouse with his presumed grandfather:
