7 Makeup Trends You’re About To See EVERYWHERE In 2021
Makeup Trends: The Top 7 Looks That Will Define 2021
THIS JUST IN. 🚨 Things are about to get a lot more colorful this year! At least, when it comes to makeup that is. Think, electric blue eyeliner, purple eyeshadow and red orange lips. Keep scrolling to see the seven makeup trends you’re about to see everywhere in 2021!
1. Electric Blue Eyeliner // Makeup by @makeupemalii
The classic cat eye is getting an electric update in 2021! Brb, sprinting to the Ulta Beauty app to order ourselves a cobalt blue liquid eyeliner so we can rock this colorful eye look on every Zoom meeting moving forward.
2. Lip Stains // Makeup by @sarah.dipity
Anyone who was an avid lipstick wearer pre-coronavirus knows lipsticks and face masks just don’t work together. So it should come as no surprise that lip stains—a lighter coverage lip product with longer-lasting wear—will quickly become a popular product in 2021. Say goodbye to smeared lipstick and hello to all-day wear!
3. Early 2000s Throwback // Makeup by @patrickta
Just like with blue eyeshadow and the chunky money piece, the early 2000s have decided to make a resurgence, too. Think, full, feathery brows and soft, chocolate brown lips. However, the trick to this look is to keep things light and fresh overall. Fill in the brows with light, upward strokes using a thin eyebrow pencil to keep things natural-looking and only go a few shades darker than your natural lip color for the pout.
4. Bright Red Orange Lips // Makeup by @traceeellisross
No makeup trend roundup would be complete without a classic bold red lip, but 2021’s predicted take on the trend is going brighter. More specifically, a bright red lipstick with warm, orange undertones in a matte finish. It can be a tricky color to pull off, so make sure you find the hue that’s best for you and your skin tone. (Hint: True oranges shades pair best with dark and medium skin tones while coral looks good on most skin tones.)
5. Purple Eyeshadow // Makeup by @lipsticknick
Life is too short to only wear neutrals on your eyelids! A colorful twist on the classic smoky eye, purple is one color that is the perfect balance between subtle and vibrant—depending on the shades you choose. So carefully place your go-to neutrals palette to the side (those are not cheap people!), and let the artist in you have a little fun!
6. Fresh, Glowing Complexion // “Makeup” by @vikeejeah
Last year we learned makeup just isn’t a necessity anymore, so we are ecstatic to report that the barefaced, minimal makeup look is sticking around in 2021! If you’re devoted to the no makeup life, incorporate a facial oil into your skincare routine to make your skin look glowy AF. (Drinking lots of water also helps with hydrated-looking skin! 😉)
If you love a simple no-makeup makeup look, use a tinted moisturizer instead of foundation for a lightweight, dewy base, add pops of highlight on the apples of the cheeks for a natural glow and finish with the lipgloss of your choice.
7. Colored Mascara // Makeup by @jamescharles
This eye look is a significantly bolder take on the trend but make no mistake: Colored mascara is about to have a moment this year! An easy way to add a pop of color to your everyday look or the perfect finishing touch to a color-coordinated glam eye like the one below, simply switch out your go-to black mascara for a fun hue like purple or blue.
