5 Easy Styling Tips For Quick Updos
Make Updos Easier With These 5 Tips
Every stylist needs a variety of upstyling techniques in their arsenal and who better to teach them than BTC Team Member Annette Waligora (@annette_updo_artist)? Her Instagram is a go-to for quick video tutorials, so we pulled some of our favorites for you to use ASAP. Scroll down for the deets and grab her expert tips to start styling FAST!
1. Keep Hair Moisturized
Before styling, make sure the hair is properly prepped to keep strands moisturized and avoid unnecessary damage. Annette likes to use Redken One United All-In-One Multi-Benefit Treatment Spray to keep the hair conditioned and control frizz while styling. Plus, the spray works as a heat protectant and features a lightweight formula that doesn’t weigh down the hair.

2. Bobby Pin Placement
Avoid opening and placing bobby pins in the hair. Instead, simply slide them into place to avoid too much hair entering the pin and disrupting the hold. If a section needs extra security, criss cross bobby pins on top of each other to hold the hair in place.
3. Lock In The Style
There’s no point in putting your client’s hair into an intricate upstyle if it’ll fall flat in a few hours. This is where a strong holding spray, like Redken Triple Take 32 Extreme High-Hold Hairspray, comes in. “[Triple Take 32] is a high hold spray that adds long-lasting lift and volume to hair with 24-hour humidity protection and maximum control,” says Annette. Simply spray it over a finished look for extra hold that’ll last all night!

4. Create Volume
The top of the hair looking a little flat? No problem! An easy way to add instant volume at the crown is to take the end of a tail comb and gently lift the hair. Make sure the hair is secure with an elastic or your hand as you manipulate it, so it doesn’t fall apart.
5. Use Clip-In Extensions
You might be tempted to upsell your client on tape-in or hybrid weft extensions for their event, but sometimes it’s best to keep it simple. Annette likes to use clip-in extensions to quickly add volume and length to the hair. Once the event is over, the client can easily remove them if extensions aren’t what they’re used to.
