3 Tips For Converting A Global Lightening Client With Foils
Watch This: How To Convert A Bleach-And-Tone Client To Lived-In Color
Your global lightening client wants to keep her bright blonde strands but also wants to switch to something more low-maintenance. What do you do? Watch the video above to see how Olaplex Advocate Amy Spencer (@amyspencerhair) uses foils to convert solid blondes to something more lived-in with a softer grow-out, then keep scrolling to get three key tips she shared while demoing the technique!
1. Do This For A Healthier Starting Canvas
Because a global lightening service can be harsh on the hair, it’s important to treat the hair before going in with more lightener. To set herself up with the healthiest starting canvas possible, Amy will first mix Olaplex No.1 with water and let it sit on the hair for five minutes. Then, she’ll layer Olaplex No.2 right over it and leave it for another 10 minutes before rinsing.
Here’s why: Olaplex No.1 and No.2 work to rebuild broken disulfide bonds, which results in stronger strands. Strong, healthy hair helps avoid unwanted splotchiness and ensures you get an even lift when lightening.

2. A Trick To Prevent Foil Slippage & Bleeding
Nothing ruins a foil service faster than slippage and bleeding, so to prevent both Amy applies Olaplex No.2 directly at the roots, followed by the lightener and then layers Olaplex No.2 again over the ends. But don’t feel like you have to do this extra step on EVERY section. Amy says she only does it in areas where she feels foils may slip like the hairline, which is more fragile than other areas.
3. Determining The Money Piece Section
Do you ever question the starting point of your money pieces on each client? Amy has a simple trick that will have you sectioning the face frame like a pro every time! Simply lay a rattail comb at the high point of the head. Then, where the comb starts coming off the head is where to start the money piece.
