Here at BTC, we like to think that platinum blonde is to hair what wearing white is to fashion—once considered a post-Labor Day faux pas, platinum blonde (on its own or combined with bright, funky pops of color) is now welcomed year-round. Just ask Leah Fitts (@leahfittsbeautydesign), a stylist at Palette Collective in Gilbert, Ariz. She recently created this vivid platinum with a fun, dusty rose shadow root, and, judging from the comments on our Instagram, there will be no shortage of requests for this look from your clients. Luckily, Leah shared her formula and how-to with us, so you can achieve the color in your salon. Here’s how.

Pricing Breakdown: bleach retouch: $100; root color: $70; toner: $30; style: $50
Total: $250

COLOR FORMULAS

  • Starting Level:

Previously bleached and toned, with 1 inch natural regrowth

  • Formula A (bleach retouch):

Simply Blonde Transparent Lightener + 20-volume developer

  • Formula B (root shade):

    Permanent Color 1 oz. 10BrM + 1/4  oz. 5VR + 1 1/4 oz. 10-volume developer

  • Formula C (toner):

    Ice Sheer Tone

FORMULA STEPS

1. Apply Formula A to natural regrowth only, making sure not to overlap preexisting lightened pieces. Process for 30 minutes or until pale yellow (but no longer than 45 minutes). Shampoo and condition using Kenra Professional Platinum Revive Shampoo and Conditioner, then towel-dry.

2. Apply Formula B from the scalp to 1 to 2 inches out, making sure each section is evenly saturated. Process for 15 minutes. During the last 10 minutes, comb the root color out into the midshaft to soften the line of application.

3. Shampoo the processed root shade out, and towel-dry. At the bowl, tone previously lightened ends with Formula C. Process until desired shade is achieved.

4. Rinse and condition, then apply Kenra Professional Platinum Revive Complex. Continue with haircut and styling. Leah’s client was blown-dry and given modern waves using the ghd Classic Styler. She was finished with Kenra Professional Platinum Finishing Spray.
