Half way through 2024 and copper still reigns supreme. Actress Da’Vine Joy Randolph floats down the Met Gala 2024 red carpet looking like royalty in a regal-inspired gown and custom ginger unit by celebrity hairstylist Tai Simon (@lovetaije).

The Inspiration Behind The Ginger Met Gala Look?

“ICONIC and ROYAL,” Tai says. “We wanted to emulate Sisi Empress from Austria’s glam with a vivacious texture yet with dignified form.”

COLOR FORMULAS

  • Formula B (Shadow Root)

Koleston Perfect 7/43 + Welloxon Perfect Creme Developer

Koleston Perfect 77/44 +  Welloxon Perfect Creme Developer

  • Formula D (All-over)

FORMULA STEPS

1 . Starting with a fresh custom unit, Tai lifted the base color to a Level 6 to 7 ash light brown using Formula A.

Pro Tip: Apply Formula A with 20-volume developer on the base of the lace. “Be sure not to have too heavy of bleach strokes to avoid killing the integrity of the hair and promote dimension prior to depositing color,” says Tai.

2. Once lifted, shampoo the hair using Wella Professionals Ultimate Repair Shampoo and Conditioner to revitalize each strand.

3. After air-drying the hair to a “deposit ready form”, Tai applies Formula B as the root shadow. “Depositing this darker ginger was key to creating a natural yet opulent shadow root,” she says.

4. Blending from the endpoint with balayage-like strokes, apply Formula C throughout the mid shaft stopping right before the ends.

5. Apply Formula D to marry each ginger tone together for a complete and cohesive look.
