• When cutting visually, the hair should be damp, but not wet. “The more you can see the hair in its existing state, the more helpful it is,” says Paul.

• Paul held his razor at about a 45-degree angle, but for a subtler look, you could hold the razor more parallel to the hair.

• To eliminate bulk, start in the lower crown, taking horizontal sections and using your razor to skim from midlengths to ends. Then, use this as a guide for blending into the top horseshoe parting.
