The Best Hair & Beauty Moments From The Oscars 2021
2021 Academy Awards: BTC’s Best Of Beauty
The Oscars may have had a two-month delay this year, and while we’re pretty used to Zoom glam by now, it was def worth the wait to see all of the red carpet looks IRL. We’re rounding up our fave hair and beauty moments of the night below—from Margot Robbie’s fringe-spotting to Halle Berry’s big chop and Zendaya’s nod to Cher. Just keep scrollin’!
1. Andra Day
Let’s take a moment to just appreciate these curls by Andra’s go-to stylist Tony Medina (@hisvintagetouch). To get the look, Tony applied Schwarzkopf Professional FIBRE CLINIX™ Hydrate Booster section by section, combing through to define the curls. After diffusing and fluffing out with a pick, Tony twisted each curl around his finger with a little OSiS+ Magic Anti-Frizz Shine Serum.

2. Carey Mulligan
Alexa, play GOLDEN by Harry Styles. Carey *was the moment* in Valentino, but her hair was really everything to us. Carey’s colorist Tracey Cunningham (@traceycunningham1) is sharing her beige blonde formulas—tap the beaker below! Jenny Cho (@jennychohair) then styled her fresh blonde into a twisted updo for the red carpet.

3. Viola Davis
And the Oscar goes to… Jamika Wilson (@jamikawilson), who won the Academy Award alongside Mia Neal and Sergio Lopez-Rivera for best hair and makeup on Netflix’s “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.” Jamika does it all, and also created this stunning red carpet look for Viola Davis.
The highlight of this style is the contrast between the tapered sides and flowing, defined curls throughout the top. To create this, Jamika used Matrix Style Link Super Fixer Strong Gel to slick the sides.

4. Zendaya
*Zendaya always understands the assignment.* Dressed in a custom Valentino gown styled by Law Roach, the entire look was inspired by Cher’s iconic cut-out yellow dress. To complete the look, celeb hairstylist Larry Sims (@larryjarahsims) created ultra-long flowing waves, Sheika Daley (@officialsheiks) served a dreamy eye look and Chaun Legend (@chaunlegend) gave Z a neutral mani using OPI Professionals Samoan Sand.

5. Margot Robbie
We LOVE when our fave celebs surprise us with a new haircut on the red carpet. Margot showed up with a FRINGE moment cut by Cervando Maldonado (@cervandohair) and a darker blonde by Tracey Cunningham, styled into a loose pony by Bryce Scarlett (@brycescarlett). An absolute dream team!

6. Amanda Seyfried
Sorry Gen Z, here is further proof that the side part is anything but basic. Renato Campora (@renatocampora) created a couture look for Amanda, that he describes as “precise and vintage.” The key to this look was getting the hair as smooth, especially around the hairline, using the Dyson Corrale™ Straightener. To keep Amanda’s hair looking perfect all night long, he finished with Wella EIMI Stay Essential Hairspray.

7. Regina King
When the hair looks good from EVERY angle… Larry Sims (@larryjarahsims) gave Regina a sharp, angular bob tucked behind her ear for a classic look using Tangle Teezer. BRB, we’re watching this video on repeat! 👀

8. Vanessa Kirby
Everything Adir Abergel (@hairbyadir) touches is MAGIC. Before building an ultra-sleek knot with a dramatic middle part, Adir applied Virtue® Labs Healing Oil for a glossy finish that wouldn’t alter Vanessa’s clear blonde haircolor.

9. Halle Berry
Pixies, voluminous curls, bobs—Halle Berry owns every haircut. When her go-to stylist Sara Seward (@saratess) chopped Halle’s hair into A-line bob with baby bangs and styled with Oribe, the internet absolutely popped off. We love to see it!

10. Angela Bassett
When your client is heading to the red carpet, followed by a long evening at the Oscars, prep is KEY to building a foundation that lasts. That’s why Randy Stodghill (@hairjunkierandy) applied PHYTO SPECIFIC Thermoperfect and Volumizing Blow Dry Spray to damp hair for the perfect blowout. Then, he used PHYTO SPECIFIC Baobab Oil to moisturize and hydrate. For ultra-smoothness, Randy ran through her strands with the ghd Max Professional Wide Plate Styler.

11. Steven Yeun
Category is: Men’s blowouts! Anh Co Tran (@anhcotran) was inspired by Tony Leung In Wong Kar-Wai’s “In The Mood For Love” for Steven’s red carpet look. Here’s how Anh achieved the style with a blowout:
- Rough-dry until 50% dry with the Dyson Supersonic™ Hair Dryer Professional Edition with the smoothing nozzle. Use the second intensity for both heat and speed settings.
- Then, turn up the heat to the highest setting and the lowest speed setting with the concentrator nozzle. Use a small round brush to work the hair back and away from the face.
- Finish with the Dyson Corrale™ Straightener to straighten the ends and crown.

14. Yeri Han
A sleek chignon is a red carpet staple, and celebrity stylist Derek Yuen (@dereksyuen) paired the classic style with a dramatic middle part and a glossy finish for actress Yeri Han. Once the part was set, Derek applied a dollop of PHYTO Glossing Cream to add shine. For his final touches, he used PHYTODEFRISANT Anti-Frizz Touch Up Care to lay down flyaways in the front hairline and around the chignon.
