4 Tips To Master Texture
Texture is always in. So when MIZANI was in town for their Freedom To Style class, we stopped by to pick up some texture tips from Celebrity Stylist and MIZANI Global Artistic Director César Ramirez. Here are some of our faves.
Unique Crimps for any Texture
Whether your client wants a crimped style or you need to set her hair before mastering a beautiful updo, this texture technique could be your new go-to. Here’s how it’s done.
When creating a long ponytail with added hair, the goal is to make it look as much like your client’s real hair as possible. To do this, part the hair in sections and always use diagonal- or horseshoe-shaped partings. This will make it easier to incorporate your client’s hair into the weft and will ensure there are no hard lines visible.
Another pro tip? Work with your top section last to cover any remains of the weft. Then, voilà! The ponytail looks beautiful, long and like it’s completely your client’s.
The “It” Tool For Texture
MIZANI artists are all about using their lacer tool to create multiple variations of texture. César suggests working in a Figure 8 pattern to create Z-waves—and remember, the less of the lacer you see, the tighter the wave or the curl will be.
We saw MIZANI at Premiere Orlando and got this up-close-and-personal beach wave how-to using the lacer, too. Check it out!
Want a Lacer fun fact? César says once you really master how to use the lacer, your client’s curls can last up to five days. Um…amazing!
Education Is Key
“I would work five days a week and go to classes on my two days off,” says César. “And it’s really important to be open to different types of clients. I made sure I worked in a salon that was really diverse so I could work on clients with different textures.” Just because two girls have curly hair, doesn’t mean you’ll tackle styling their hair the same way. So when it comes to texture—it’s all about practice and getting educated!
