2023 Fringe Guide: How To Cut This Year’s Biggest Trends
6 Types Of Fringe Clients Will Request This Year
Fringe. Is. In. Blunt bangs, micro texture, cropped curtain bangs, SIDE fringe and more are everywhere this year. We’ll warn you now: your comfort zone clients are going to surprise you with a fringe request. So, we prepped a guide with all the best tips and inspo pics to use.
Scroll through this list of six types of fringe that will pair perfectly with any of 2023’s biggest haircut trends for an added edge to your client’s fresh cut.
1. Heavy Fringe “Bardot Bangs”
Three words: high density needed. The “Bardot Bang” that you’ve seen all over social media is here for a reason. Aside from the chic style the heavy fringe creates an incredibly functional for clients with A LOT of hair.
Heavy fringe is a great way to take weight off of your thick-haired clients without sacrificing any perimeter length. Quick disclaimer, fine hair is not ideal for this trend because of the density needed to fill out the entire fringe section (not to mention, extra weight helps this look to lay perfectly in place all day).

2. Blunt Bangs
The classic blunt bang is making its way to 2023. Trends took a break from the straight across look and moved into a more natural-looking fringe space. But now, the structured style is back and we have some tips for you to try!
Pro Tip: Blunt bangs need to be cut on dry hair. ARC™ Scissors team member Briana Cisneros (@brianacisneros) shares her go-to scissor for dry cutting. “I’d be lost without my Paragon II,” she says. “I can get so close and tight to my cutting lines and I don’t have to worry about anything bulky getting in the way of my clean, perfect line.”

3. Side-Swept Fringe
Looks like Gen Z’s attempt to end the side part via TikTok was a bust—and we were hoping it would be. Although styling plays a big role in the side parts, the haircut is most important for a day-to-day look your clients want.
The goal: don’t sacrifice balance! Side parts will require different cutting techniques for each client. The look is purposefully uneven, but it should ALWAYS blend together. It’s important to use your client’s hair density as a guide to add or remove layers and volume where needed to avoid a lopsided look.

4. Eyebrow Framing Fringe
The defining factor of this trend is creating fringe that peaks at your client’s mid forehead and blends downwards towards the top of their cheek bone.
Keep in mind—because everyones face is different, using your client’s brow bone and eyes can naturally create your guide. This fringe is especially flattering on clients with smaller foreheads because it gives the illusion of a higher brow bone.

Pro Tip: Be AWARE of your sectioning around your client’s ears. To connect fringe to a face-framing section, thin out your sections as you work towards the ear so the hair blends seamlessly.
If you keep sections heavy, you run the risk of creating too much weight in front of the ear, creating a disconnected look instead of a flattering shape.

4. Wispy, Feathered Fringe
For these bangs, vertical sectioning will be your best friend. The length of wispy fringe typically hits right below (or on top of) the brow bone depending on your client’s comfort level. Using vertical sections will allow for the axis of your shears to cut in motion, creating the most airy effect with delicate texture.
Pro Tip: ARC™ Scissors Team Member Rachel Williams (@rachelwstylist) recommends the Phantom Swivel for cutting fringe. “I can glide through any haircut with ease because the scissors let me change my position and angles smoothly. Even though I’ve been cutting for 21 years, I can still struggle with certain hand positions! The Swivel changed my life.”

5. Piecey, Cropped Fringe
This soft look with an undone edge is perfect for chic clients who embrace French-inspired trends and live an on-the-go lifestyle. Piecey fringe is open to creative interpretation in terms of length and degree of disconnection. However, you’ll notice this style looks best if the fringe hits at the top of the eyebrow.
Pro Tip: The wow-factor of this look comes from the strategic placement of the “highs and lows.” Depending on the features your client wants to enhance, you will want to crop certain pieces of the fringe (like the outer corners or above the bridge of the nose) to hide or lift certain features.

Pro Tip: Texturizes are must-have tools for piecey looks with an edge. Depending on your client’s hair type, you’ll need to choose the right texturizer to ensure you’re not removing too much weight:
- For 20 percent hair removal, use ARC™ Scissors 30/2 Reversible Blender
- For 40 percent hair removal, use 28/4 Reversible Texturizer
- For 60 percent hair removal, use 10/10 Reversible Texturizer
