Beginning in the front, balayage using Formula A in ½-inch sections, applying the color in a pattern “similar to that of cell phone service bars,” shares Jenna, “from higher around the face to a little lower toward the back of the section.” Jenna left very thin slices between each ½-inch section to add dimension. She also used saran wrap to keep the sections from bleeding.

In the back, apply Formula B in V-shaped sections, this time leaving out a thicker slice between each section. Jenna says here, the V pattern is key to keeping the ends nice and light.
