How-To: Modern Pop Art Nails

Your nails are like 20 tiny canvases, and you love to show off your artistic skills. But your masterpieces are fleeting—they never last long enough! And the color selection is always lacking. Well…not anymore! The pros at OPI just launched their GelColor Artist Series Design Gels, and your nail art world will be totally rocked!

The Artist Series Design Gels make intricate precision a breeze (especially with the Artist Series Striper Brush) and the 24 shades are ready for flash-curing after just one coat. The coolest part? They are meant to be mixed! The assortment of primary and tertiary colors are a total playground for a nail artist, so your only limit is your own creativity. You can start with an intro kit, which includes six shades, a striper brush, a nail palette (for mixing those colors up!) and instructions.

And for a little inspiration, here’s a pop art-inspired look!

HOW-TO STEPS

  • 1

On a properly prepared nail, apply a thin coat of OPI GelColor Base Coat. Cure 30 seconds in the OPI LED Light, then apply two thin coats of OPI GelColor Alpine Snow. Cap the free edge of the nail by painting the tip of the nail with a horizontal stroke. Cure each coat for 30 seconds.

  • 2

Using the OPI Artist Series Striper Brush and OPI Artist Series Design Gel Blue-per Reel, apply a blue dot to the moon. Flash-cure the nail for 15 seconds.

  • 3

Create an arch over the dot with OPI Artist Series Design Gel Cantaloupe on a First Date! Leave a tiny outline of white showing through. Flash-cure the nail for 15 seconds.

  • 4

Mix OPI Artist Series Design Gel I’m Teal-ing on You and The Time is White to create a light blue shade. Create two arches on each sidewall using the light blue mix and OPI Artist Series Design Gel Blue-per Reel. Add a flat peak to each arch so they almost connect. Flash-cure the nail for 15 seconds.

  • 5

Continue creating the pattern using alternating colors. Flash-cure for 15 seconds.

  • 6

Add contrasting dots of color inside each circle or half-circle. Cure 30 seconds. Finish by applying a thin coat of OPI GelColor Top Coat and cure for 30 seconds. Remove the gel residue with an OPI Expert Touch Nail Wipe and N.A.S. 99.
