When you saw this incredible dimensional balayage, was your first thought, “I know exactly which client that’s for?” Good—because we have the formula and how-to below!

The stylist behind this gorgeous, rooty caramel and ice blonde confection is Jenna Giansanti (@jenna.giansanti) from Envogue Salon in Denver. Jenna’s client made the trip to Envogue all the way from Dallas with a grown-out ombré that she hadn’t colored in more than a year. “She wanted a lot more dimension and brightness, especially around her face,” shares Jenna, “but she still wanted to be able to go months without feeling like she needed to come back, so I decided to use balayage!”

Pricing
$165 for a full head of balayage and a blow-dry.

HOW-TO STEPS

  • 1

Start by sectioning down the part line and from the front to the back. “I started in the front because she wanted it extra bright around her face,” says Jenna.

  • 2

Apply Formula A in ¼-inch horizontal back sections, painting Vs in each section, and fully saturating the ends. “I used a lower developer with Formula A because the hair around her face is a little more fragile,” Jenna notes.

  • 3

When you get to the back, switch to Formula B. Start at the bottom, and paint Vs and Ws (“so when she wears her hair forward, it’s lighter underneath,” says Jenna). As you make your way toward the top, leave every other section out to create dimension.

  • 4

Process for 35 minutes with not heat.

  • 5

Rinse, shampoo with Unite BLONDA Shampoo and gloss with Formula C for 10 minutes.

  • 6

Rinse, and apply Unite 7SECONDS Masque to help with any dryness.

    Styling
“When we got back to the chair, I used Unite 7SECONDS Leave In Conditioner and round-brushed her dry,” says Jenna. “Once she was dry, I used a 1 ¼-inch curling iron to give her beachy, loose waves. I finished with Unite TEXTURIZA Spray and broke up all the curls.
