Want the in on this cool tied up faux hawk by BTC team member Maggie Hancock (@maggiemh)? Her secrets are relatively simple but they make a world of difference—like using a ribbon or accent piece to embellish the end result and applying tons of amika Vandal Volume Powder for the ultimate tease and lift. Now keep scrolling for the entire styling breakdown.

Manufacturer: amika, @amikapro

Products Used

Prep damp hair with amika Brooklyn Bombshell Blowout Spray and rough-dry to maintain texture.

Next, create horizontal sections following the round of the head, secure each section with an elastic and then create six ponytails in a Mohawk-like manner.

Apply amika Vandal Volume Powder to the base of each ponytail and tease. Once the hair is totally teased, create a French twist and roll the hair to one side of the head. Secure with bobby pins.

To finish, spray amika Headstrong Hairspray all over. (And for added detail, Maggie suggests using a ribbon or accent piece to up the cool factor!)

Takeaway Tip: To eliminate using a lot of small bobby pins, use large roller bobby pins instead—they give a better grip and a tighter hold.
