Lucy Hale is known for her signature cool-girl bob and for being our fave “Pretty Little Liars” alum—sorry Hanna, Spencer and Emily. But what you didn’t know is that the actress’ most recent role we’re obsessed with is… Wella Professionals’ new Brand Ambassador! That’s right. To celebrate the big news drop, Patricia Nikole (@paintedhair) gave Lucy a dimensional brunette refresh with bright-painted ribbons. Tap the beaker for the color formulas and keep scrollin’ for all of the deets.

What was the desired goal for the transformation?

As an actress, Lucy is switching up her color regularly—from midnight black to warm auburn and even golden blonde. “With Lucy, we discussed going lighter and settled on creating a chestnut latte customized look for her,” said Patricia. “Her starting point was that she had darker level hair and was looking for a change.”

What is the biggest secret to this dimensional brunette refresh?

As a Wella Professionals Global Brand Ambassador, Patricia co-created SHINEFINITY Color Glaze—a new demi-permanent translucent gloss with zero lift. Not only does every formula have a gel cream consistency, but the results are true-to-tone and last up to six weeks before booking a client for their next toner touch-up.

FORMULA STEPS

Starting Canvas

Level 3 with pre-existing permanent hair color

1. Start by prelightening hand-painted sections using Formula A. Patricia used strategic placement to create the perfect canvas to accentuate golden ribbons on a chocolate brunette base.

2. Process for 50 minutes or until the hair lifts to a healthy Level 7, then rinse.

3. Apply WellaPlex N°2 Bond Stabilizer at the sink or bowl to strengthen the hair after lifting and rebalance pH levels for 97 percent less breakage.

4. Then, tone with Formula B.

Pro Tip: “Because SHINEFINITY is a pH-balanced, zero lift and zero damage color glaze, it was the perfect choice for Lucy’s hair that would allow me to achieve healthy, multi-dimensional results and a translucent veil of color,” said Patricia.

5. Process for up to 20 minutes, then shampoo and condition with Wella ColorMotion+ to keep freshly-colored hair strong and prevent fading.

Next, Patricia tapped in North America Brand Ambassador Briana Cisneros (@briancisneros) to style Lucy’s hair into subtle waves.

6. Prep for a blowout by dampening hair with Wella Professionals EIMI Perfect Setting Hair Spray to start building a voluminous foundation.

7. Blow-dry the hair with a round brush. Then, use a flat iron to create soft waves.

8. Apply Wella EIMI Glam Mist Shine Spray and Wella EIMI Perfect Me Hair Lotion to set the waves with natural smoothness.

9. Finish with Wella EIMI Stay Firm Hairspray to lock the style in place.

10. Finished Look
