All-Over, Golden Luxury Blonde

The trend radar is showing hair color moving away from bold money pieces toward blended, all-over blondes. Here’s why we love it: These soft ’90s-inspired, blended warm tones look best when paired with a soft root to avoid harsh regrowth. This means that the luxurious finished result requires a lot of work to make the blonde look expensive—so it’s time to build your ticket, colorists!
BTC spent the week at Eurovision with the Moroccanoil® styling team in Liverpool, UK. That’s where we caught up with UK-based Global Color Ambassador Gareth Williams (@garethwilliamshair) to get the breakdown of his luxe, golden blonde. What was this client’s starting canvas?
Gareth’s client came in with one inch of regrowth and an existing Level 7 blonde that looked raw and brassy in places.
What was the desired end goal of this service?
“We wanted to create a global blonde which really reflected shine and vitality! [With high lift color], we still [created] something that looks tonal, with a soft contrast which again makes everything super reflected,” said Gareth.
How long does this process take?
The total time for application is 1.45 hours, development time is 50 minutes with a gloss for 20 minutes.
How do you maintain this blonde in the salon?
“My recommendation for the next appointment will be a regrowth application in six weeks time with Formula B, followed by a gloss with Formula C,” said Gareth. “Ribbons should be re-introduced periodically but not following the same sectioning pattern to prevent lines. I would suggest doing at least two regrowth appointments before doing a partial highlight technique on appointment three.”

COLOR FORMULAS 
FORMULA STEPS
1. Start by placing ribbons of Formula A, working with a chevron sectioning technique through the back. Once the back foils are applied, apply Formula B to the regrowth.
2. Once complete, work through the front sections following the hairline diagonally and gradually pivoting the ribbons until you reach natural placement at the recession. Repeat this process on both sides with Formula A.
3. Next, apply a few slices of Formula A at the face-frame before working foils through the parting, placed on diagonals and interconnecting with each side of the parting.
Pro Tip: This placement was not symmetrical, rather interlocking with each other to give a softer grow out, said Gareth.
4. Once the foils are complete, apply Formula B to the roots.
5. When the back foils have processed, rinse the section. Allow the front section to develop for 50 minutes.
6. Once everything is rinsed, apply Moroccanoil® All in One Leave-In Conditioner generously throughout the hair. After, cleanse with Moroccanoil® Color Care Shampoo.
7. Apply Formula C globally and process for 20 minutes, rinse, wash and style.
