Wet Root Balayage: Tips For Achieving The Ultimate Blend

We’re always on the hunt to help up your balayage game. So, when we tagged along with Aloxxi for their Hollywood Education Extravaganza (we even spotted some BTC Team Members), we were SHOOK at everything we learned. Aloxxi National Educator Sam LaBella (@samlabellahair) broke down a wet-to-dry balayage technique and we HAD to share! Keep scrolling to learn it all!

To kick off the technique, stylists applied CHROMA® Permanent Crème Colour to the base.

Blending The Base

BTC Team Member and #ONESHOT Winner Frances Garcia (@makeupbyfrances) shared her go-to tip for blending: “Take a comb and gently comb the color down,” she explained. “This will ensure a smooth blend at the root and make blending the second formula, (applied to the mid-lengths) easier.”

For the mid length formula, stylists used TONES® Demi Permanent Colour with equal parts 7GV and Clear.

Create Dimension With Clear

“Balayage is great because it uses empty space to create dimension,” Sam explains. “But with a wet-to-dry application it can be difficult to create empty space that isn’t splotchy. Adding some clear to the mid formula won’t affect the level in anyway, but will create a seamless tonal dimension.”

Stylists painted with Ultra LIGHTENER.

Create Structure With Sectioning

Working in triangular sections will help ensure that all three formulas blend together. Section size can vary depending on the desired lift, smaller sections will result in a brighter blonde, and larger triangles will give a more sun-kissed, subtle lift.

Pro Tip: When applying a wet-to-dry balayage, choose products that are all close to same viscosity. For this technique, stylists used a cream lightener for their balayage.

Stylists also played with ULTRA HOT® Intense Semi-Permanent Colour. Click the beaker for the entire formula!
