A huge step in making a human look more like a doll is to change the placement of the hairline. For dolls the hairline sits further back, starting closer to the crown. To reenact this on the models, Kevin utilized bald caps. However, before a bald cap can be placed, the hair needs to be styled in a way that ensures the cap sits naturally with no stray hairs poking through. For models with longer hair, stylists wrapped their hair tightly to the scalp with the help of bobby pins and styling cream.

Once the hair is wrapped as close to the scalp as possible, models can move on in the doll transformation process. Next stop, having the bald cap placed over their hair. Kevin brought in a LA-based special effects professional, who usually creates monsters such as werewolves, to help with this stage in the process. First, he would check the cap to double check there were no holes. Then, he would carefully stretch it out using both hands as he gently placed the cap over the models' hair. Next, he smooths it out to ensure the cap lays flat and makes the model appear naturally bald. 

Finally, the special effects pro would tuck in any visible hairs and finish off the look with some airbrushing. Using a spray that matched the skin tone of the model, he would airbrush the edge of the bald cap to blur out the lines. This ensured the bald cap looked as natural as possible and would make a perfect canvas for the extravagant headpieces Kevin and his team created. 

And lastly it was on to makeup. For this specific artistic presentation, Kevin kept the makeup simple to emulate the makeup of dolls. Think extremely long eyelashes, strategically placed freckles, the pinkest of cheeks and a neutral lip color.

The final touch in bringing Kevin's dolls to life was the clothing. For his vision, Kevin selected editorial pieces that featured lots of floral touches, long, ethereal trains and statement-making heels.
