Schwarzkopf Professional® Introduces New Alphanumeric Color System

Schwarzkopf Professional® is introducing a new Alphanumeric Color System designed to make shade selection faster, clearer and more accessible.

The update will roll out first across IGORA® color, with BLONDME® transitioning at a later stage. According to the brand, the change is intended to create a more intuitive shade language while preserving the formulas, color families and performance stylists already know.

What Does It Mean for Colorists?

A shade traditionally labeled 10-91 may now appear as 10VCe. The number still indicates level, while the letters provide additional tonal direction. As updated packaging enters the market, stylists may see both naming systems appear on products, swatches and educational materials.

Here’s a quick breakdown of the new shade names:

Schwarzkopf Professional Answers Your Questions About the New Alphanumeric Color System

Is the numeric system going away?

No, we are just adding letters to our existing numeric system.

Why is the rollout happening gradually?

As we introduce the updated packaging, you may see a mix of designs for a short time. This phased update helps ensure you have uninterrupted access to our products.

Will it be confusing if the alphanumeric system isn’t on all packaging right away?

Not at all! Starting in March, you’ll see clear signage in stores explaining the alphanumeric system. And by July, our swatch buttons will include the alphanumeric codes too, so picking the right shade will be super easy.

Is there a formula change?

No. There is no formula change—only an update to the packaging for easier shade navigation.

Will this eventually be on all Schwarzkopf Professional color?

You’ll start seeing this update on the packaging for IGORA® color, and eventually BLONDME® color as well.

Are new color families being introduced?

No, there are no changes to the tone direction or color families.
