LEARN AVEDA Can, and Will, Change Stylist Education Forever

Aveda is making an even stronger commitment to developing and advancing hairstyling talent  by launching their new LEARN AVEDA educational program, and BTC was there to get all the details. Learn Aveda features a brand new cut and style curriculum centered around two revolutionary hair styling concepts: intention and wellness.

“This curriculum is really about going back to the basics with intensive lessons that break down cuts step-by-step,” says Ray Civello, Aveda Canada President. “Once we help stylists get completely grounded in the fundamentals, they can develop consistent technical and artistic expertise, which will translate into an even better experience for both the stylist and the Aveda guest.”

So what makes LEARN AVEDA truly unique? Not only does the program enable consistent execution, consistent delivery and an accelerated learning process, but it also allows the student to really own their learning. The new curriculum features “pause and practice” videos that draw upon the holistic teachings of Ayurveda, yoga and meditation to instruct beginning to advanced stylists on how to work with conscious intention.

Students will learn 15 cuts basic haircuts along with 10 detailed skills and drills videos that cover: scissor-over comb, blow-dry styling, body positions, scissor handling, texturizing, detangling, sectioning, consultations, fundamentals of haircutting and the bone structure of the skill. With this program, stylists will now have the ability to visualize a cut from beginning to end, and demonstrate how to consistently work with confidence and purpose through precise body positioning, fluidity of movement and being present in the moment.

“LEARN AVEDA incorporates the many ways I’ve found balance in my work and life through yoga, meditation and martial arts to better deliver the tasks at hand” says Ricardo Dinis, Aveda Global Artistic Director, Hair Cutting. “The idea is to create a standardized method of training by giving stylists precise body positions and clear intentions for each type of cut so that any stylist at any Aveda salon across the globe can re-create the exact same cut—a cut that is longer lasting, easier to style and perfectly adapted to each individual client.”

Aveda educators will use the video in training classes, while demonstrating the LEARN AVEDA techniques in real time to give students the opportunity to practice while being coached one-on-one by the instructor. Students will also have online access to the LEARN AVEDA video 24/7 in order to master the techniques on their own.

“Emphasizing proper body positioning, including how a stylist should stand and move and the directions their fingers should be pointing for each type of cut, as well as cutting with intention, helps stylists maintain balanced body health, and gives them the confidence to allow their artistry to shine through,” adds Tristan Morrison, Senior Creative Director Aveda Canada.

The curriculum is being introduced to Aveda Institutes now through January 1, 2015. Curious what the cost is for bringing this innovative approach to learning to your salon? Just $180 per month for the first six users, and $25 for each additional user, with a minimum 4-month subscription.
