How to Help People Impacted by the Los Angeles Wildfires

Los Angeles Wildfires: Here’s How to Donate, Volunteer & Stay Informed 

 

As of January 9, nearly 180,000 Los Angeles, California area residents are under emergency evacuation orders due to wildfires in the Eaton, Palisades and Hollywood Hills neighborhoods. With so many people and businesses affected, we’ve rounded up a list of resources for local residents to stay informed and seek aid if needed, as well as a list of donation and volunteer opportunities for those outside of the region looking to help.

 

Please note this list will be updated as needed as the status of the fires changes.

How to Stay Informed:

Below is a list of Instagram accounts, apps and websites to utilize for real-time updates and alerts.

 

  • @losangelesfiredepartment: Resources, up-to-date information and alerts via LAFD.org/alerts.
  • @lafdfoundation: Registered nonprofit for help and support.
  • @watchdutyapp: Real-time updates with maps of fires/affected areas.
  • @readylacounty: Register for phone, email and text alerts by registering at ready.lacounty.gov/emergency-notifications.
  • @nws: Follow for real-time weather alerts.

 

How to Apply for Aid:

 

The Pro Beauty Association (@probeautyassoc) Disaster Relief Fund is dedicated to helping beauty professionals recover from natural disasters. In 2024, PBA was able to raise over $400,000 for 880 professionals, providing critical support when they needed it most. No PBA membership required to apply. Human Evacuation Shelters:

Here is a list of evacuation shelters available to those affected by the wildfires. 

 

  • Los Angeles County Planet Fitness Centers: Planet Fitness is opening its door to residents, first responders and others affected by the wildfires raging across Los Angeles County. See the full list of 20+ locations here.

  • My Safe LA (@mysafela): Partners with the LA Fire Department to enhance community resilience. Volunteer at mysafela.org/volunteer.
  • Volunteer County of Los Angeles: Engages in various community support activities, including disaster response and recovery efforts. Volunteer at volunteer.lacounty.gov.
  • American Red Cross Los Angeles Region: Urgent need for disaster shelter volunteers to support those displaced by the wildfires. Volunteer at redcross.org/local/california/los-angeles/volunteer.
