HOW BILLIE WENT FROM GREEN AND BLACK TO PLATINUM

When Billie Eilish (@billieeilish) debuted her brand new look on Instagram, it quickly broke records and is now the third most-liked photo on Instagram EVER. As we all have known and grown to love, Billie’s hair was previously neon green and black. When she debuted her new blonde locks, we were shook by how even the result was and here is what we found out. 

Billie’s colorist Lissa Renn (@lissarenn) took Billie blonde over a period of six weeks, during which she rocked a wig to keep the transformation a secret.

This process consisted of multiple rounds of lightening her hair slowly in order to achieve her goal while keeping the integrity of the hair. After the first round, her hair was still around a Level 6 on the ends. 

Even after reaching a brighter blonde, there was still warmth in her ends. This just goes to show that this is a process and you simply can not get around lifting previously colored hair. The only way to platinum is through all of the warmth.

Patience is key for both you and your client which is why a thorough consultation is always important when doing a big transformation like this. Another important and often necessary part of this process is a good haircut.

In most cases that require multiple rounds of lightening, a haircut is needed to keep the hair looking and feeling healthy. A cut can also help eliminate unwanted stubborn tones that are hanging on to the ends. 

Billie has been outspoken about the health of her hair previously and it being damaged from multiple services. This is why it is important to find a stylist that knows what they are doing and Lissa certainly did it right this time.
