How Guy Tang & Kellon Deryck Created Wigs For The Music Video

We’re pretty sure that Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s new “WAP” music video just broke the internet. Disclaimer: If you haven’t heard this absolute bop or watched the NSFW vid, you might want to listen with your headphones in 😂. Let’s catch you up to speed: If you ever wondered what a Cardi and Meg house party would look like, this is it—snakes and tigers (tiger-striped wigs, too!), and cameos from Normani, Rosalía, Kylie Jenner, Mulatto, Sukihana and Rubi Rose.

Tbh, you should probably watch the video just to see Normani’s dance routine at the end…But ANYWAYS, our fave part of the video? The hair, obviously! We stan Cardi and Meg for clear skin always, but these back-to-back beauty looks single-handedly saved our 2020 mood boards. And you won’t be surprised that two megastar hairdressers were behind the hair—Guy Tang (@guy_tang) and Kellon Deryck (@kellonderyck).

2 Celeb Stylists Collab For The “WAP” Music Video

After the two met on social media, they worked together with Cardi and Meg to conceptualize each look for the video. “Kellon and I had a lot of fun creating these looks together,” Guy said. “It was a couple nights working past midnight to ensure everything was ready and perfect for their call time on set but well worth the work. Each look took about 8+ hours to create.”

Bringing Cardi & Meg’s Vision To Life

“Cardi B and Megan really conceptualized each scene in the video. But Meg has such an amazing vision for what she wants and how she wants to feel in the video,” Guy shared. “Kellon and I really just worked our magic and brought her fantasy to life and she loved it! I loved bringing her ideas to life. It allowed me to be so creative and has inspired so many new ideas to try.”

“The tiger stripe look, we were going for the wow factor,” Guy said. “We picked the perfect charcoal and silver tones so it was a bit more diffused than stark black and white which worked well with the set Megan was in during the video.”

“The purple, mint and charcoal look needed a lot of movement to it since she was wearing it while dancing,” shared Guy. “I added dimension and shine lines with mint and charcoal to give the hair the movement it needed whether she was standing still or mid choreography.”

HairBesties, Did you enjoy the new music video Wap by CardiB and Meg Thee Stallion. I had a blast with my handsome friend @kellonderyck doing the hairs for @theestallion for the new Music Video Wap with @iamcardib . We had so much fun past midnight.
