How To Nail Every Bridal Appointment
Weddings are officially back after a year of delays, so expect a major increase of clients who spent their quarantine time pinning bridal styles. Here’s the secret to nailing every bridal look: Spending that extra five minutes in the consultation to understand EXACTLY what brides want.
We’re breaking down the must-ask consultation questions below. Plus, get pro styling tips to transform ideas and inspiration into wedding-ready boho braids, buns and romantic styles.
7 Must-Ask Bridal Consultation Questions
Don’t let the consultation overwhelm brides, says bridal expert Alexandra Wilson (@alexandralee1016). Be there to guide them through simple questions that directly reference their inspo pics. This will leave no room for mistakes and reassure brides that they have a say in the design process—aka less work and a more satisfied client!
When looking at a bride’s inspo pic, always ask:
- Do you like the fullness and texture in this style?
- Do you like where the style sits?
- Do you like the volume in the crown area?
- Where do you normally part your hair?
- Do you like face-framing curls?
- Do you like the hanging curls coming out of the style?
- Lastly, are you wearing a hair accessory with the style?

Client requests a boho braided style.
Remember, boho doesn’t mean messy. To control styles and build brushable volume—which is KEY to boho braids—Alexandra always uses a lightweight texture spray like Schwarzkopf Professional OSiS+ Texture Craft. She creates airy volume with OSiS+ Dry Soft Dust, a spray-on powder. This allows to her to build tousled volume that’s also soft.

Here are five of 2021’s braided bridal trends!
Bridal Look #1: Infinity Ponytail
Pro Tip: We love a good infinity braid, but adding more texture will transform the intricate pattern into a more pulled-out, voluminous style. Amanda Diedrich (@blohaute) applies OSiS+ Texture Craft to get a good grip on the sections before building texture by expanding the hair.

Bridal Look #2: Simply Tousled With Braided Details
Bridal Look #3: Boho French Fishtail
Pro Tip: Don’t ruin fishtail braids during the pull-apart process. Before expanding down the length of the braid section by section, Alexandra puts soft texture into the hair with OSiS+ Dry Soft Dust. This ensures that she doesn’t lose volume or grip!
Bridal Look #4: Summery Boho Braided Bun
Bridal Look #5: Bubble Braid
Pro Tip: The secret to bubble braids is building volume within each section that won’t weigh down the overall look. That’s why Alexandra works with a volumizing dust like OSiS+ Dry Soft Dust instead of piling on hairspray. Plus, boho brides love the beachy aroma of the infused coconut and sea salt.

Client requests a twist or rope braid.
First, understand the difference between the two, says Alexandra. A simple twist is less defined, so it’s more likely to unravel. A rope braid is a more defined twist that holds better with an elastic in bridal styles.
Celebrity stylist Sabrina Porsche’s (@sabrina.porsche) secret to rope twist ponies is to remember this: Take two sections and twist the hair in both hands before twisting both sections together. Remember this: Twist both strands, twist together and repeat down the length of the pony.
Client requests a low bun.
- Struggling to lock in buns with a MILLION bobby pins? Amanda starts upstyles with a ponytail for foundational support.
