Violet and Smoke Color How-To from Joico

Long, arched lines and sweeping strokes of violet and smoke embedded in a creamy neutral base make this asymmetric style truly unique. It’s from Joico’s innovative Le Graphique collection, inspired by French hairstylist, makeup artist, fashion designer, art director, photographer and visionary Serge Lutens. C’est chic!

HOW-TO STEPS

  • 1
  • 2

Starting at the crown, working toward the fringe, create a zigzag weave parting and clip. Create a diagonal weave parting off the points of the zigzag and apply Formula A 1/8- inch off the scalp.

  • 3

Take a diagonal slice parting directly underneath and apply Formula A. Continue applying approximately six back-to-back slices.

  • 4

    Repeat on the opposite side.

  • 5

Take a vertical diagonal slice behind the ear and apply Formula A. Apply the lightener in three more slice partings. In the nape area, apply Formula A to four horizontal-diagonal slices.

  • 6

Clip away a slice of hair at the crown. Create a diagonal slice parting, picking up the natural, not lightened, hair and apply Formula B. Repeat in four back-to-back slices of natural hair. Create another diagonal slice and apply Formula C.

  • 7

On the opposite side, take three vertical-diagonal back-to-back slices in front of the ear and apply Formula A. Leave a one inch slice of natural hair, then apply lightener to two vertical-diagonal back-to-back slices. In the back, apply lightener to three horizontal-diagonal back-to-back slices. Lift to Level 9, remove and dry the hair.

  • 8

Take two additional slices and apply Formula C. Take another diagonal slice and apply Formula D. Apply Formula E to the next slice.

  • 9

On the opposite side, clip away a top slice of natural hair, then apply Formula B to two slices of natural hair. Apply Formula C to two slices, Formula D to one slice and Formula E to two slices.

  • 10

On the right side, apply Formula B to four back-to-back vertical-diagonal slices of natural color. Apply Formula C to the next slice, Formula D to the next slice, Formula E to the next slice and Formula C to the next two slices.

  • 11

On the left side, apply Formula B to two vertical-diagonal back-to-back slices in the back. Apply Formula C to the next two slices, then single slices of the following: D, C, B, C, D, E, C, D, E.
