Amber started styling hair at a young age in her grandmothers salon, learning classic techniques from the start. Her professional career began in 1998.
In Amber’s tenure, she has written curriculums for cutting, coloring, and styling. Amber is currently the Director of Education for Ken Paves Salons as well as the Creative Director, offering ongoing inspiration to the entire Ken Paves Salon Team. She has trained at world-renowned academies such as Schwarzkopf Academy, Redken NY, Vidal Sassoon, Bumble and Bumble, UNITE and Alexander de Paris where she studied classic French and Italian styling.
In addition to Amber’s heavy involvement in Ken Paves Salon, she also spends much of her professional time creating looks for some of Hollywood’s biggest A-Listers. She has an abundance of editorial experience, creating looks for UNITE, Badgley Mischka, Miami Fashion Week, Los Angeles Fashion Week, London Fashion Week and Paris Fashion week.

This vintage Hollywood look is romantic and glamorous, and a perfect updo for a client who is looking for some va-va-voom. Done by UNITE stylist Amber Nichols, this pin-up girl evokes true vintage beauty and throw-back chic.

HOW-TO STEPS

Start by washing and conditioning the hair with Unite Smoothing Shampoo and Conditioner. Apply Unite Smoothing Deep Treatment and let sit for 20 minutes. Rinse, dry and apply Unite 7Seconds Conditioner.

To finish the prep, apply Unite Session Whip from the mid shaft to the ends. Blow dry and set using Unite Boosta Spray for soft control.

Set each section starting at base to control movement of hair, wrapping softly around fingers.

Continue on throughout the head.

After the finger curls are set, mist with Unite GO365 on light to set and prep for the curling iron.

Figure 8 curl each section to ensure depth in waves.

Remove clips to drop set.

Softly brush through with mason. Set and movement will stay. Breakup any section lines.

Take graduated bob-like section (from occipital to behind the ears – back comb form roots to ends in approximately 3 sections, not too aggressive but assuring strength in weight.

Roll section under from ends to base. Lock by pinning in an X with large pins. This also creates a cushion to pin into.

Begin dressing hair, bringing sections back and pinning; let the movement you put in live so pull softly to place.

Secure with hair pins and use a Marcel to enhance waves. Mist with Unite Tricky Lite and finish with Unite G0365 on strong hold.
