As any stylist knows, red to blonde is no simple feat! The name of the game? Gotta be gentle. From your technique to your mixing, down to the foils you use, keeping the hair in tact is priority number one. When stylist Rick Wellman had a client come in asking for such an extreme change, he knew there was only one way to go—Biolights Cotton Strips, an eco-friendly, bleed-free and gentle alternative to foiling (that Rick himself invented!). Here’s how he did it!

Next, balayage the pieces that were left out and process for 20 minutes.

Lather the bleach and shampoo together at the shampoo bowl for 5 minutes to slightly lift any remaining red strands. This creates a variation of lifting and soft removal process of the reds, resulting in neutral golden blonde fused dimension and soft shadow at the root. (Rather than pouring bleach all over, creating a solid result).

Shampoo and glaze with Formula B at the root and Formula C toward the ends, marrying the two shades together in the middle. Next, process for 10 minutes to seal the cuticle and reinforce the neutral warm tones and soft shadows toward the root.
