How-To: Floodlighting
Combine bold color with a softening technique with this how-to! Inspired by bold, creative color and strong structure, the “floodlighting” technique takes high fashion color and gives it salon appeal.
Also…would you believe this is ammonia-free color? It is! Organic Colour Systems offers creative colors without the ammonia and other chemicals found in most haircolor lines. Every Organic Colour Systems service starts with a Wet Stretch Test to determine the hair’s current condition, then it’s treated with a product that addresses the hair’s specific need—protein or moisture. Check out this Wet Stretch Test on a client with both highlighted and natural hair!
Hairdressers learn the Wet Stretch Test at Organic Colour Systems classes, and this is the difference between this line and others. “I feel like most product lines and color lines focus on treating the hair after the fact, but this turns it upside down, and treating it beforehand it makes total sense,” says James Alba, who owns The B Hive Organic Salon in Hillsdale, N.J. A bonus? The Wet Stretch Test is super intriguing for clients.
“Stylists are infamous for not connecting between the retail, the service and the client,” says James. “When they’re doing the Wet Stretch Test, they’re already linking the product at the very beginning of the service, so it resonates throughout the entire process. They’re being pre-treated with that product, they’re being shampooed with that product, so it’s a good linear process once that consultation is finished.”

And for James’ wife Angela, who also owns The B Hive, the lack of harsh chemicals isn’t a barrier to his creativity. “I actually feel like I have more flexibility with this colour line because the pigment levels are much lower ,so you have more freedom,” she says. “You don’t get muddy colors or colors that are too saturated or too dark, and the quality of the hair is much better.”
