Foil in a diagonal front across a side part to break up the existing stripes that are through the center part. Foil with mostly Formula A and occasionally Formula B. Foil horizontally on the sides.

Apply Formula B to the high nape. Process for 40 minutes, checking the hair’s strength through the foils while it processes.

Shampoo and begin to tone. Lucy didn’t want to lose the clean blonde, so she toned with two different formulas. First, she re-foiled the hair wet and applied Formula C over the old back-to-back foil pattern to keep the existing lighter strands clean, then she toned the rest of the hair with Formula D. Process for 20 minutes.

How-To: Erasing Stripes

This is incredible and SO satisfying. Lucy Dilkes (@hairbylucifeen) a stylist in Bairnsdale, Australia, was super excited to finally change her client’s hair from those dated stripes to a clean brown with a violet-red base. Here are the details!

 

“My client has had these stripes for more than five years,” Lucy shares. “This style was once popular in the ’90s, but it’s definitely dated now. I’ve been her stylist for the last three years and would offer to change the look with every session, but my client didn’t want to change what she was used to. I wasn’t a lover, but I always try my best to please.”

Starting Level: “My client went from a 3VR base and back-to-back blonde foils to no base and just foils through the top,” Lucy shares. “She loved her dark–violet base color, so we didn’t lose it entirely.”

 

Price: Lucy priced this service at $220 (about $161 in U.S. dollars) for the color and gloss plus a light trim.
