  • Formula A (lightener):

    1 part Flash Lift Lightener + 2 parts 25-volume developer + Olaplex No.1

  • Formula B (roots):

    Shades EQ ½ oz. 7N + ½ oz. 9V

  • Formula C:

    Shades EQ ½ oz. 9N + ½ oz. 9V

That color. The cut. Those bangs. Everything about this stunning look from Bianca Hillier (@biancacolour), a colorist at Andy Lecompte Salon in West Hollywood, Calif., screams #hairgoals (and may just have us reconsidering our promise to never get bangs again). Needless to say, Instagram loved it, too, because this post got more than 14,000 likes! Here’s how she achieved that beautiful, barely there color.

“For my client/model, Natalie Boras, I like to create a lighter look—something that will open up and contour her face, while at the same time having messy bangs in her face,” says Bianca.

COLOR FORMULAS

  • Formula A (lightener):

    1 part Flash Lift Lightener + 2 parts 25-volume developer + Olaplex No.1

  • Formula B (roots):

    Shades EQ ½ oz. 7N + ½ oz. 9V

  • Formula C:

    Shades EQ ½ oz. 9N + ½ oz. 9V

HOW-TO STEPS

  • 1

Prelighten the hair using Formula A, applying it to the roots and tips. “I used the same bleach formula for the roots and the tips because I wanted to give an extra bright ribbon of color on the tips,” says Bianca.

Work your way from the neckline up to the top of the head using a Framar Tint Brush. “I formulate something a bit stronger for each layer of highlights,” notes Bianca. “This way the neckline, the middle of the hair and the top layer of highlights move at a similar pace.”

Place all the hair in a plastic bag to trap in the heat and keep the chemicals from drying out. Diffuse/heat up the highlights, ensuring they lift at a quicker speed. Process the highlights for 5 to 10 minutes. Rinse and shampoo with Kevin.Murphy YOUNG.AGAIN.WASH.

  • 4

Before toning, Bianca applies Olaplex No.1 + water as a treatment and processes for 10 minutes.

  • 5

Next, apply Formula B at the roots but leave the hairline out. Process for 5 minutes. “The hairline grabs faster because the hairs are often more fine and can go dark easily,” notes Bianca.

  • 6

Apply Formula C all over, including the hairline, for an additional 5 to 10 minutes while Formula B processes. Process until desired tone is achieved, rinse and apply Olaplex No.2 for at least 10 minutes.

  • 7

Rinse, shampoo and condition with Kevin.Murphy YOUNG.AGAIN.WASH. and Kevin.Murphy YOUNG.AGAIN.RINSE.
