Taraji P. Henson’s Snatched Ponytail At The 2024 Emmy Awards

“Capturing the beauty of black women was my inspiration for Taraji’s Emmy look,” explains celebrity stylist Tym Wallace (@tymwallacehair). “I referenced the 90’s supermodel to create a sleek, snatched ponytail.”
A high ponytail is no stranger to a red carpet, but this silk press, slick-back, extra-long pony with a slight body wave is an unbelievable pair to accompany a custom Versace dress down the Emmys carpet.

With a head-turning look on the mood board, Tym wanted to be sure Taraji’s hair was still kept healthy and protected, “With all the press stops for “The Color Purple”, there has been a lot of manipulation to her natural hair, so I really wanted to make sure her hair was hydrated. Prior to thoroughly blow-drying her hair, I sub-sectioned into four parts and applied a heat protectant.”
HOW-TO STEPS

After coloring extensions from Hidden Crown Hair Extensions to match Taraji’s natural color, Tym reached for TPH by TARAJI Soak it Off Wig Refresher & Hair Detangler to cleanse followed by Keep it Fresh Spray to reset the softness.

To achieve a red carpet silk press, Tym used the ghd chronos styler to press the hair in small sections. He described the sectioning technique as being essential to achieve the, “Not too high, not too low” ponytail.

To hide the ponytail band, Tym said, “I wanted drama so I created an extended braid and wrapped it with a 20-inch hair that I cut off of the Hidden Crown V-Clip Extensions to add extra length.”

For finishing touches, root concealer was used along the hairline along with TPH by TARAJI Slick Edge Control Cream to smooth the edges. Spray the entire look with strong hold hairspray for a lasting hold and shine finish.
