Going platinum is never simple, and it’s important both colorists and clients know that the process to getting—and staying—the perfect shade of platinum will require time, money and a lot of patience. “I can’t stress enough how crucial it is for clients to understand that this look is very high maintenance. It takes a certain lifestyle and regular upkeep to really achieve this color,” says Jeffrey Robert (@jeffreyrobert_), a new member of #THEBTCTEAM and creator of this stunning ice-white shade.

He recommends platinum clients come in every 5 to 9 weeks to avoid inconsistent blonding results, and especially if the natural level is between 2 and 4. “I’ve had experiences where no matter how hard I lift, the hair type just is not the right type for platinum hair. So please, for those interested in platinum, get a thorough consultation, listen to your hair, but more importantly, listen to your stylist,” Jeffrey says.

Check out the steps and formulas he uses when retouching a platinum client after 7 weeks of regrowth, and watch his behind-the-scenes video he shared with his followers, too.

COLOR FORMULAS

  • Formula A:

Schwarzkopf Professional BLONDME® Bond Enforcing Premium Lightener 9+ + 20-volume developer (ratio 1:1½)

  • Formula B:

    BLONDME® Bond Enforcing Premium Lightener 9+ + 7-volume developer + desired shampoo

  • Formula C:

    Schwarzkopf Professional IGORA ROYAL 9,5-1 + 0-11 + 7-volume developer + b3 Brazilian Bond Builder

FORMULA STEPS

1. Apply Formula A to the roots using foils and a hair cap to keep the lightener moist and always working for maximum lift.

2. Next, do a lightener wash using Formula B at the bowl. Process for 15 minutes or until the hair is pale blonde.

3. Tone on damp hair using Formula C. Jeffrey uses b3 Brazilian Bond Builder in his toning formulas for added longevity and shine, and he doesn’t typically pre-tone.
