Rachel Sennott's Cocoa Noir Brunette

Rachel Sennott arrived at the 2026 Met Gala with “Cocoa Noir Brunette” by Matt Rez (@colorbymattrez), Paul Mitchell Global Color Artist and epres™ Global Celebrity Colorist and Vice President of Artist Development, styled by celebrity hairstylist Sami Knight (@samiknighthair). The color reads deep and shadowed at first, then shifts into soft cocoa tones with movement for a polished, light-absorbing finish.

Starting from a natural Level 6 with grown-out highlights, Matt took a gloss-only approach to deepen and refine the tone without committing to permanent color. Using Paul Mitchell The Demi, he layered neutral, gold-beige and matte tones to rebuild depth, control warmth and create a rich brunette that stays dimensional and fades softly over time.

Matt’s Pro Tip: “I love a 6MT (matte tones) in the formula to cool things off, neutralize and drop colors richer all at the same time.” Below, we break down his full formula.
