There’s nothing dull about this cheery pink shade. Multi-tonal, bold and darn right pretty, this vibrant pink is totally on fleek and has been popping up on celebs like Julianne Hough and Kaley Cuoco all season long. This stunning hot and soft pink combo, created courtesy of Joico Vero K-PAK Color Intensity “Extreme Colorist” winner Ashley Spangenberg, melts two rosy, intense shades to create a truly electrifying result. Her prize for winning was a 90-minute video that focused on the Intensity shades and demonstrated her extreme makeover. Joico Vero K-PAK Color International Artistic Director, Sue Pemberton, Joico International Guest Artist, Liza Espinoza and Joico Guest Artist, Cherry Petenbrink loved Ashley’s “Dark Berry Melt” with combined Sapphire Blue, Ruby Red and Amethyst Purple.

Once Ashley was notified of her win, she was sent amazing prizes such as an iPad Mini, 24 tubes of Intensity and was invited to create another shoot to showcase the two new Intensity pink shades. “They gave me the colors, a budget and unlimited creative freedom,” notes Ashley.

Wanting to create a graduating pattern of a rose petal—deeper at the base and gradually lightening toward the ends—Ashley created this vivid yet feminine combination of pink hues on a rosy violet base. Here’s her haute pink formula!

COLOR FORMULAS

FORMULA STEPS

1. After prelightening the hair, apply Formula A to the new growth for a modern, “rooty” effect.

2. Next, apply Formula B in alternating sections–horizontal in back and vertical in the front around her face. Note: Some sections were solid and some were blends of the two pink shades, Hot Pink at the base melting into the pastel Soft Pink. “I was trying to interpret a sun-kissed effect using shades of pink,” Ashley explains, “so I wanted the hair below the occipital to be lighter.”

3. Rinse, shampoo, condition and style the hair as desired.

And when it comes to the color, Ashley says, “I didn’t expert the neon to be this bright, and I was so impressed with coverage of the pastel as well. This was the first photo shoot I was responsible for, and I couldn’t be more excited and thankful to Joico for the opportunity.”
