The key to creating dimensional brunette on a mid-length cut? According to Redken Global Color Creative Director Josh Wood, it’s all about the foil placement. Keep the foils off the root and be strategic about placement—isolating colors will create optical illusions of dimension and high-impact end results. Here are the formulas and steps for Josh’s honey brunette blend.

FORMULA STEPS

Starting Point: Natural Level 2, Dark Brown

1. Take ¼-inch diagonal sections using a slice-skip-slice-stitch technique and place sections on a foil. Apply Formula A using a classic highlighting technique and cover with a foil to secure. Complete the top and side sections.

2. Apply Formula B to the roots using a global application to hair not placed in the foils and process at room temperature until very light blonde or up to 50 minutes. Then shampoo with Redken Chemistry Extreme for dry hair.

3. Next, apply Formula C using a global application and process at room temperature for 20 minutes. Rinse, do not shampoo. Then, on towel-dried hair, apply pH-Bonder #2 Fiber Restorative Pre-wash Concentrate for 10 minutes. Rinse and follow with Color Extend Magnetics shampoo and conditioner.

After.
