At Hairroin Salon in New York City, Artistic Director, Luis Payne loves cotton. More specifically, he loves working with Biolights Cotton Hair Color Strips when doing balayage services. Why? Many reasons!

Biolights
“They’re lightweight and so versatile,” he explains. “They are so much easier to mold to the head shape than foils. I can split them in half like two-ply tissue if I need an even lighter pad. I can work with them vertically if the hair is long or horizontally for smaller sections. I definitely like to tear them in half horizontally for the sections above the ears. I may even wrap the ears with a pad to protect them when I’m doing a double process. I use them with color remover to remove tint from the skin. I even use them after a cut or bang trim to get to those tiny, prickly hairs. They’re softer and more sanitary than a makeup brush!”

Above all, Luis feels that Biolights is the perfect haircoloring tool for keeping balayaged sections isolated, and preventing colors from colliding. Here, he demonstrates on “Red,” a client whose new signature, sizzling shade is dimensional and precise thanks to his Cotton Balayage approach!

“My client loves being red—that’s her nickname!” says Luis. “She has no intention of changing. So our goal with this service was to bust through some residual color build-up and add some brightness around her face.”

“I chose to use Biolights because they are amazing when I color the base and balayage at the same time,” says Luis. “The cotton prevents unwanted bruising or marbling from the base color on the balayage sections, and really supports my color design!”
