FORMULA STEPS

1. Start by applying Formula A to the roots only. Then, slice or weave in Formula B throughout the rest of the head and process until the ends reach a Level 8/9.

2. Shampoo, then tone with Formula C. Process for 5 minutes, then wash and lightly condition. “I like to apply vibrant colors to pre-toned hair because it creates an even canvas and helps the stain adhere to the hair longer and more evenly,” shares Julie.

3. Blow-dry, leaving the hair about 10 percent wet to give the vibrant colors a little slip and to help the color spread more evenly.

4. Then, apply Formulas D, E and F in the desired pattern. Julie took 1- to 2-inch vertical panels and alternated applying the three formulas. “I did one extra panel of copper on one side so she could flip it the other direction and get an extra pop of color,” notes Julie.

5. Place a cap over her hair and process under heat for 15 minutes, then let cool for 5 minutes.

6. Rinse in cool water, then shampoo with KEVIN.MURPHY REPAIR-ME.WASH and condition with KEVIN.MURPHY YOUNG.AGAIN.RINSE.

7. For the cut, start by taking angled partings and point-cut the back perimeter into an upside down U-shape to create the angled perimeter. Continue to drop down sections until the entire back section is point-cut into an upside down U-shape.

8. Then, take 1-inch vertical partings and start texturizing layers into the hair with the 50 percent side of the Donald Scott NYC Carving Comb. “It only removes 50 percent of the weight, leaving the shape of the cut while perfectly texturing the interior layers,” says Carolynn.

9. Drop down the front sections, overdirecting them to the back to keep the length in front. Then, continue texturizing interior layers into the front of the hair but make sure to not cut the point off the front of the haircut.

10. Using a wide-tooth comb, blow-dry the hair until it’s 75 percent dry before switching to a round brush. “Eliminating most of the water before grabbing a round brush saves not only time but your arm,” notes Carolynn.

11. For the style, if she wants straight strands, use the Sexy Hair Smooth Lock Pro 1¼-inch Ceramic Flat Iron to smooth out the last 2 inches of the hair, staying away from the root. For a curly look, use a 1¼-inch BaByliss Pro curling iron and curl each section in opposite directions to create beachy waves.

12. Let the curls cool, then tousle them with your fingers. Finish the style by spraying Eufora Style Details Sry Spray Wax at the root to give it some lift and finish with a shine serum to make the color pop.
