What Is Olaplex No.0? Read This!
8 Common Questions & Answers About Olaplex No.0
ICYMI: Olaplex just dropped another treatment for your clients’ at-home care routine. Here’s a hint—it’s a primer for your HAIR! 🌟 BTC has the deets about what Olaplex No.0 is, how it works, why it’s different and how you can offer it to your clients. Keep scrollin’ for everything you need to know!
What is Olaplex No.0?
Short answer: Olaplex No.0 Intensive Bond Building Treatment is a primer to Olaplex No.3 Hair Perfector, the at-home treatment that repairs damage and split ends, and protects the hair structure.
But What Does No.0 Actually Do?
Think about it like this—with skincare and makeup, your products work best with a primer, right? Your foundation and eyeshadow sit better and last longer on top of a primer, and makeup looks better after a solid skincare routine. Priming the hair with No.0, then applying No.3 over it, will give the repair treatment a boost by properly prepping the canvas.
Here’s some must-know info:
- Primes and preps hair for optimal repair with No.3
- Multiplies and reconnects broken bonds
- Protects and secures newly formed disulfide bonds
- Needle nose bottle for easier application
How do I use it with other products?
While No.0 will work on its own and provide repair, it’s designed to be the first step in a two-part process with No.3. Here’s why: Olaplex technology works best when the product is wet in the hair. No.0 is a watery liquid that dries quickly, so using No.3 over it keeps the hair damp so the duo can continue to work during the process.

I have Olaplex No. 1, 2 and 3—why do I need it?
Sounds a bit like the at-home version of the Olaplex Stand-Alone Treatment that you already offer in the salon, right? Unlike Olaplex No.1 and No.2—the professionals-only treatment that you charge for as a service—No.0 contains less of the active ingredient used in step one of the salon service, aka it’s less concentrated.
What This Means: The Stand-Alone Treatment is the most concentrated Olaplex experience. The concentrated first salon step rebuilds broken disulfide bonds and begins the repair process. The second step continues to rebuild and restore remaining broken bonds. BUT, No.0 and No.3 can help clients maintain their hair health at home and continue the ongoing process of protection against damage.
Do you need to have colored hair to use No.0?
Nope, No.0 is for EVERYONE. What do we mean by everyone? All hair types and textures, like the rest of the Olaplex line. More intensely damaged hair will see the most dramatic results at first, but the more often clients use No.0, the healthier the hair will become. If the hair only has minor damage or breakage, the results may not be as noticeable right away, but the treatment is working within the hair structure.

How quickly does it work?
The treatment is a minimum of 20 minutes, but the longer you allow the product to sit, the more significant the results will be! We’ll do you one more—let’s break down the application process! Check out the steps:
- Apply No.0 to clean dry hair from roots to ends and comb through with a wide-tooth comb or wet brush to ensure saturation.
- Process for 10 minutes, then apply No.3 Hair Perfector directly on top of No.0 and comb again to saturate thoroughly.
- Allow the treatment to sit for another 10 minutes, or longer!
- Once complete, rinse and wash with Olaplex No.4 Shampoo and No.5 Conditioner.
Pro Tip: No.0 features a bottle applicator to speed up application.
How do I recommend this to guests?
If you’re already using Olaplex in the salon, remind clients throughout the service that they can maintain that salon fresh feeling and invest in their long-term hair health by using No.0 and No.3 in between appointments. PS – Each bottle contains 4 to 6 treatments!
COVID-19 Tip: With capacity limits and restrictions, have clients use No.0 at home to reduce time spent in the salon. This will give you more time to book out more profitable services without sacrificing the health and integrity of your clients’ hair.
Which is the best Olaplex?
It’s like your favorite skincare routine, how could you decide between your moisturizer and your cleanser? You need both! The entire Olaplex line works together with patented chemistry that works at a molecular level to repair broken or damaged bonds during color services, at the shampoo bowl and at home.
