WATCH: Sam Villa’s Slide-Cut Shag
BTC called it months ago—the shag is BACK in a big way. So when we spotted the master Sam Villa cutting this amazing shag for Redken at the International Salon & Spa Expo, we had to grab our phones and hit “record” right away! Watch Sam do it and get his tips below.
Products Used
“It’s all about the way you’re layering,” Sam said about this cut. “Execute graduation in a different way.” Here’s how he does it:
- Work in vertical layers, slide-cutting short to long for softness and loose weight.
- Create an initial “rim” around the hair to use as a guide throughout the cut (watch this at 0:57 and as Sam says, “Don’t panic!”).
- Remember to use thinner sections on thicker hair (to remove more hair) and thicker sections on finer hair (to leave more hair on the head).
- P.S. The model’s haircolor? Sam did it! He used Redken City Beats Big Apple Red.
Watch how it’s done and scroll down for the finished look!
