Lightener Consistency #1: Whipped Frosting
- Mixing ratio: 1 part lightener to 1.5 parts developer
- Great for:
- Superior precision
- Clients with thicker, textured hair
Balayage Babe and BTC Team Member Farhana Premji (@xo.farhana.balayage) uses this mixing ratio for her hair painting services. “It’s my go-to consistency for clay lightener,” she explains, “it’s thick enough so it doesn’t drip but thin enough so it glides on the hair when I am painting.”

Lightener Consistency #2: Sour Cream
- Mixing Ratio: 1 part lightener to 2 parts developer
- Great For:
- A quick coverage service.
- Client’s that have fine or thinning hair.
Blonding Expert and BTC Team Member Jen Maxcy (@hairandbeautybyjen) uses the “sour cream” consistency because it’s smooth and even for open-air painting. For this look, Jen placed small weaves in foils using the BLONDME® Premium Lightener 9+ from the bottom of her crown to her hairline and balayaged the remaining hair with the new BLONDME® Clay Lightener. “I love the consistency of the BLONDME® Clay Lightener more than any other I’ve tried,” she exclaimed. “I get the cleanest balayage highlights!”
