Behind The Hair: Modern CEO at Alexander Wang FW18

It’s official—the jaw clip is BACK, thanks to Guido Palau and Alexander Wang FW18. BTC is bringing you a close-up look at the backstage action, how the look came together and everything about what is surely this season’s coolest hair accessory and hottest haircolor.

Held in the former Condé Nast offices at 4 Times Square (where the designer himself once interned), the show took inspiration from the corporate “power dressing” women of the ’80s and ’90s. Enter the jaw clip—what Guido, Redken Global Creative Director, says is the designer’s ironic take on the working woman hair of those decades. “Something not cool, or off, has been rejigged again—like the mullet haircut,” Guido told us backstage at the show. “I love the way that something can be reintroduced. Lots of girls don’t even know what a [jaw clip] is.” Click the “L” icon in the photo below to learn how to create Guido’s aerodynamic “modern CEO” hair.

Also of note—zero platinum blondes walked in the show. “Deep brunettes or reds, there is no in-between,” Redken Global Color Creative Director Josh Wood revealed backstage. He created a garnet red for model EZ, whose career exploded at Alexander Wang’s FW17 show. Previously a bleached blonde, Josh gave EZ the hue we predict every cool girl will want this season (and we have the formula—click the beaker below!).
