Blended Blonde Toning: Danilo’s 5 Key Tips To Know

1. Consider your canvas to create a custom formula: Danilo shares, “Half of the formula is already in the hair. We’re starting with a pale yellow lift, and we’re using blue/violet toner. It’s going to give you a neutral, beige-ashy look.”

2. Always add gold in your toner formula for bright blondes: “Gold is the shiniest color in the color system. This will keep it bright,” Danilo explains. Click the beaker to get his formulas!

  • Formula B (mids-to-ends):

3. Adjust your formula as you reach dull, prelightened ends using the same bottle: Danilo starts toning at the roots, applying Formula A. Once he blends the root shade down the entire head, he uses the same bottle of toner for the midshaft and ends—but adds a slight tonal shift. “I’m going to add in one ounce of Schwarzkopf Professional® IGORA Vibrance® 9.5-1, which means ash (blue).” This creates Formula B.

He continues: “Why am I adding in more blue on her length but not on her roots? Her roots are freshly bleached, they’re more porous. The ends have old color, it’s more yellow. So, where it’s more yellow, I’m adding more neutral color so it looks brighter and fresh.”

4. Apply to the money piece last: “I’m going to skip her money piece because I want to make that a bit brighter. It doesn’t have to be chunky, but a little bit brighter. Everyone loves that.”

5. For easy and quick application: Skip the brush. “I don’t need to melt or blend anything, I’m just depositing the toner,” Danilo shares. That’s why a bottle is his go-to for this technique.
