10 Met Gala Hair Moments You Have To See

close formula

The Met Gala is known as the fashion world’s most extravagant night—where nothing is too shocking, too extreme or too avant-garde, and you’re actually expected to push the limits. Showing up with a brand new platinum pixie à la Anne Hathaway in 2013? Yes, please. A gigantic Philip Treacy headpiece (lookin’ at you, 2015 Sarah Jessica Parker)? Perfect.

So it stands to reason the night should produce some pretty exciting hair. And this year, our favorite celebs did not disappoint. Here are some of the most jaw-dropping looks from 2017’s Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garcons-themed ball.

1. Zendaya
Never one to pass up an opportunity to experiment with her hair, Zendaya stepped out onto the stairs of the Metropolitan Museum with a larger-than-life, Diana Ross-inspired, textured fro. And the internet. went. nuts.

2. Bella Hadid
Bella’s new A-line lob, courtesy of stylist and Living Proof Haircare Co-Founder Ward Stegerhoek, was actually a product of her new Vogue Italia cover shoot, but what better place to debut the chop than the Met? “When [fashion photographers] Inez and Vinoodh, [creative director of Vogue Italia] Giovanni Bianco and Ward Stegerhoek ask you to cut your hair for your new Vogue Italia cover…the answer is yes!” she posted on Instagram about her fresh chop.

3. Karlie Kloss
When Karlie gave us a sneak peek of her new ‘do (courtesy of stylist Frankie Foye) on Insta stories the night of the ball, we were all holding our breath for the final reveal. Clearly, we didn’t have to. She looks stunning with her new platinum, blunt chin-length cut.

4. Alison Williams
Alison’s locks keep getting further and further away from her “Girls” character Marnie’s hair—which (as she proves with these glam Hollywood waves styled by Rebekah Forecast) isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

5. Cara Delevingne
On Monday night, Cara proved that just because you have a shaved head doesn’t mean you can’t have fun with your “hair.” The model-turned-actress showed up decked out in silver paint and rhinestones, complete with a painted-on, asymmetrical side part.

6. Rose Byrne
The ‘70s are back, as evidenced by Rose’s soft, textured disco diva curls. Emphasized by a deep side part and plenty of volume, Rose’s curls put her on plenty of 2017 Met Ball best hair lists.

7. Zoe Kravitz
Another day, another celeb hopping on 2017’s platinum pixie train. But Zoe’s stylist, Nikki Nelms, kept her new crop looking ultra-cool by giving it a slight bend with amika’s Mighty Mini Styler.

8. Rita Ora
Always a red carpet risk-taker, Rita showed up with a totally avant-garde, graphic look that took THREE DAYS to put together! According to her stylist, Cesar Ramirez, the style was created using a combination of Indique hair wefts, Mizani Foam Wrap lotion, Mizani Twist and Coil Jelly and Mizani HRM Humidity Resistant Mist. 9. Ruby Rose
Celeb stylist Brant Mayfield’s inspiration for Ruby’s disheveled, voluminous look? “I wanted it to look as if Ruby had just gotten off a motorcycle,” he says. Mission accomplished, we’d say.

10. Kate Hudson
Kate’s transition from her natural golden locks to an icy white (courtesy of colorist Sharon Krause) was already a drastic change. But stylist Peter Gray took it one step further, styling her hair into a stark, structured topknot—a cool departure from Kate’s usual relaxed, Boho vibe.
